Fed: Cloning illegal and immoral, says Abbott

Federal Health Minister TONY ABBOTT says claims a cloned baby boy was born in Sydney
is the medical equivalent of a UFO story.

Mr ABBOTT says cloning is illegal and immoral.

The controversial international cloning group Clonaid claims it successfully created
its sixth child, following the birth of a baby boy in Sydney last week.

The child is said to have been born in a Sydney hospital on February the 5th to infertile
parents living in the greater Sydney area.

Head of the Clonaid project, biochemist BRIGITTE BOISSELIER, who is in Australia to
monitor the birth, says the boy has been released from hospital and is being monitored
by a local pediatrician.

Mr ABBOTT's told the Nine Network cloning is dangerous and he does not support it.

Opposition health spokeswoman JULIA GILLARD's also told Channel Nine the claims are
disturbing and parliament had voted to outlaw the practice.
