Fed: Vietnamese community urges strong action on death sentence

Australia's Vietnamese community wants the government to take a tough stand in thecase of an Australian woman facing execution in Vietnam.

Amnesty International has also spoken out against the death sentence imposed on LEMY LINH, who has been convicted of trafficking heroin and diazepam.

The 43-year-old's appeal against the sentence has been rejected and she has seven daysto ask for clemency from Vietnam's president.

Vietnamese Community in Australia federal president TRUNG DOAN says it's impossibleto get a fair trial in Vietnam as the communist party controls the legal system.

The community is calling on the federal government to emulate Canada which, after oneof its citizens was executed, cut off aid.

Last year, firing squads in Vietnam executed 55 people convicted of drug-related charges.
