WA: Wilful murder for man accused of mum, daughter yacht deaths
PERTH, April 8 AAP - The charges against a man accused of killing a woman and her teenageddaughter during a sailing trip off Western Australia's remote Kimberley coast have beenupgraded to murder.
Gary Douglas Whitsed, 33, had been charged with one count of manslaughter and threeof interfering with a corpse after the disappearance last year of 57-year-old Avril Croftand her 14-year-old daughter Alana.
The mother and daughter disappeared while sailing with Whitsed aboard his yacht, the Celt.
He reported the pair missing in August, sparking a joint investigation by NorthernTerritory and West Australian police.
Despite an extensive police search, the bodies have never been found.
The West Australian Director of Public Prosecutions today said the charges againstWhitsed had been upgraded to two counts of wilful murder.
He is due to appear in Broome Magistrates Court on April 22.
