Vic: Qantas workers in Melbourne reject pay deal
MELBOURNE, Jan 15 AAP - Qantas' maintenance staff in Melbourne have rejected a wageoffer in a surprise vote this afternoon.
About 315 Australian Workers Union (AWU) and Australian Manufacturing Workers Union(AMWU) members stopped work at 2.30pm (AEDT) to vote on the offer, which included a 12-monthwage freeze.
Another 700 members will vote in Sydney tomorrow, with 100 others to follow on Thursday.
Today's vote, 235 against and 80 for the proposal, flew in the face of appeals by AMWUnational state secretary Doug Cameron for members to accept the deal.
